This morning's mood and sounds... 'Grave digger song' by the Mark Lanegan band. I quite simply love this understated session for 4AD in all of it's simplicity. Mark Lanegan's facial expressions are so intriguing, they tell a story in themselves. His posture, the way he stands and holds his body, steady and strong. Projecting his voice in such a gravelly yet powerful manner, he really does deliver a bold and intense performance. Also, his supporting band members hitting every note with immaculate precision, collectively illustrate the talented and experienced musicians that they are. A diverse array of artists each bringing something very different and distinct to the table, arranged together they end up producing such a high quality of sounds. An awesome session which I strongly recommend that you check out if you haven't already done so.

Dead Can Dance是英國獨立唱片公司4AD旗下最具影響力的樂隊之一，其核心成員是 男中音, Brendan Perry（男主音，結他手，多樣器樂演奏家）女低音莉薩·傑勒德（女主音，揚琴手，多樣器樂演奏家）。
該樂隊於1981年在澳洲成立，並於1983年與4AD簽下合約，翌年推出樂隊的處女作——同名專輯「Dead Can Dance」。這張專輯收錄了樂隊在成立後的3年間創作的歌曲，帶有明顯的朋克影響。
同年年底，樂隊又發表了名為「Garden of the Arcane Delights」的迷你專輯(EP)。
樂隊的第二張專輯，「Spleen and Ideal」於1985年推出，這張專輯標誌着樂隊初步探索出其日後的主要風格，即將歐洲民俗音樂——特別是帶有中世紀與文藝復興時期色彩的——與氛圍流行樂（Ambient Pop）結合，營造出一種迷離的宗教氣氛與富於異國情調的旋律。
「Within the Realm of a Dying Sun」，樂隊的第三張專輯，於1986年出版。而第四張專輯，「The Serpent's Egg」，則於1988年面世，與上一張作品的肅穆的哥德風格相比，這張專輯受拜占庭宗教音樂的影響，旋律莊嚴而緩慢。
同年，樂隊還為電影「El Niño de La Luna」（由Agustin Villarongas導演）配樂，而且這部電影令Lisa Gerrard初登大熒幕。 「Aion」，第五張專輯，於1990年出版，這張專輯顯示出樂隊對中近東音樂元素的注意與興趣。
同年，樂隊進行了一次美國巡迴演出，獲得好評。為了進一步開拓美國市場，樂隊於1991年發表精選專輯「A Passage in Time」，這是樂隊第一張進入美國市場的作品。 1993年初，樂隊為紀錄片「Baraka (紀錄片)」配樂，並在同年秋天發表新專輯「Into the Labyrinth」，這張專輯在歐美兩地都獲得巨大的成功。緊接着，樂隊在歐美舉行了另一次巡迴演出，並在翌年推出記錄了這次巡迴演出的現場唱片「Toward the Within」.
1995年，Lisa Gerrard發表其個人專輯「The Mirror Pool」，引起外界猜測樂隊是否要解散。1996年夏，樂隊推出最後一張作品，「Spiritchaser」，這張專輯有明顯的部落音樂色彩。樂隊在隨後舉辦了一次全球巡迴演出，然後於1998年宣布解散。
2005年，4AD公開宣布Dead Can Dance重組，。然而，這一消息並沒有引來太多的關注。畢竟，二十多年過去後，「DCD風格」已經為歐美眾多darkwave、gothic追隨者發展到一個無可超越的頂峰階段，特別是歐洲一眾neo-classical、medieval、apocalyptic、neo-folk的出現，宣告了Dead Can Dance已經成為一個過去。

Scott McKenzie原名Phil Blondheim  1939年出生於美國佛羅里達州 Jacksonville，後來她們家搬到維吉尼亞州的時候，Scott認識了John Phillips而且變成好朋友，他倆曾以the Smoothies之名一起灌過唱片，並且一直在the Journeymen合唱團唱民歌，1960年代中期當民歌風潮退燒後John Phillips組了著名的the Mamas & the Papas合唱團，Scott McKenzie則從事個人的演唱事業，John先送給Scott一首原來準備當1967年Monterey Pop Festival音樂節主題歌的San Francisco，結果成了排行榜第4名的暢銷曲，後來還有一首Like An Old Time Movie則得到第24名。
